Short Film Analysis Operator: This short film is very suspenseful, and creates then tension with only one character, and another down the phone line. The only sound in this video is the characters voices. The viewer can only see one characters facial expressions and actions, and with the other they have to use their imagination to picture what Gemma is doing in the fire. The sound effects and the fear in Gemma’s voice adds to the tension and helps the viewers understand her situation, since they can’t see her. The lighting is very natural, and fits with the setting of the office, with a key and fill light on her face so that the audience can see Laura’s reactions and expressions. Both actors convey emotion through their acting, and the way they deliver their dialogue. Although Laura doesn’t know Gemma, the viewer can tell she cares about her by the way she speaks sympathetically and tries to comfort her.
