Short Film Analysis

Short Film Analysis Operator:  This short film is very suspenseful, and creates then tension with only one character, and another down the phone line. The only sound in this video is the characters voices. The viewer can only see one characters facial expressions and actions, and with the other they have to use their imagination to picture what Gemma is doing in the fire. The sound effects and the fear in Gemma’s voice adds to the tension and helps the viewers understand her situation, since they can’t see her. The lighting is very natural, and fits with the setting of the office, with a key and fill light on her face so that the audience can see Laura’s reactions and expressions. Both actors convey emotion through their acting, and the way they deliver their dialogue. Although Laura doesn’t know Gemma, the viewer can tell she cares about her by the way she speaks sympathetically and tries to comfort her.  The Ellington Kid This short film is mainly set in one key loc...

Test Shots

My first test shot: This shot had good lighting, considering it was only one main bulb from the center of the ceiling. Her face is well lit, and manages to capture her facial expressions well. However, I will still use dim fill light to light up the left side of her face a bit more to cancel out the slight shadows that are cast on the left side of her face. The sound quality isn't the most highest in this clip, but there will be diegetic music over the top of the clip in this scene. My second test shot: This shot is well lit, and is unsteady. I will need to have a tripod to ensure that the camera isn't shaky. The lighting is slightly over exposed as she walks into the clip, so I may have to include some artificial lighting, and take the final shot a bit closer, so it enables me to do so. My third test shot: I took an image the other side of the previous shot, and it is clear that I need to have some dim lighting on her face, to bring her out of the s...
