Film studies Short Film – Switch.

 

Scene 1:




Establishing shots from outside of house, setting up the atmosphere in garage, radio plays in background, specific song that will later return. Anna walking through garage, holding large box saying 'garage' of random objects. She sets them down, organizing shelves, singing happily to the song on the radio. Shows her looking at photos of her and Jake.

 
Phone rings, Anna turns down music and answers

 

                        ANNA: Hello? Who’s this?

 

Facial expression drops, goes into trance. Looks directly into camera. Cuts to black.

 

 

Scene 3:



Low shot of  Anna walking into house through kitchen, picks up knife and towards dog. Shot of dog lying on the floor, Anna appearing behind out of focus staring in doorway. Walks over to dog and kills. 


Cuts to shot of Jake gardening outside, Anna creeps up behind out of focus and slights throat. Cuts to black. 


 

Scene 4:

Establishing shot from outside launderette, shots of washing machines turning, Elliot sitting reading newspaper. Anna walks in straight past Elliot, as he stares up at her and smiles. Her headphones on are playing same song as beginning of film. She has a blank expression. She  begins to load the washing machine up as he stands up to talk to her.

 

 

                  ELLIOT: Hello?.

 

Anna ignores, Elliot looks at her with confusion.

 

                  ELLIOT: Are you okay?  
He taps her and she flinches, accidentally shoving the bag of clothes onto the floor. Elliot bends down to get it and notices blood all over the shirt. She snatches it back, slams the washing machine and storm out quickly.

 
Elliot watches her in confusion, continues to do washing.

 

Scene 5:

 

Elliot is strolling through woods, taking photos on camera. Spots something in the distance – Anna dragging dead body wrapped in a sheet. He zooms in on his camera, camera starts to glitch




           
Looks at camera in confusion and then holds up to eyes again. Jump scare – Anna is closer to the camera, standing and staring. Elliot puts camera down from face

 



Anna continues to stare, before pulling knife out of pocket and walking towards Elliot. Elliot begins to run. Anna is waiting behind a tree with knife and cuts Elliot up as he runs and kills him, before leaving him on the ground dead and walking off with headphones on. Cuts to black


Scene 6:


Cuts to Anna sitting on sofa starring ahead of her. Knock at the door and she gets up to answer, blank expression.


Police officer: Anna Shilley?


Anna smiles and holds wrists out ready to be handcuffed. Cuts to black.
 

                                    END

    NJO - Good work Maddie! I think working on the characters - particularly Anna will be really beneficial for you. Try to get into her mindset - how is it that she is able to be possessed so quickly? Is that something that you need to allude to before? Maybe hypnosis leaflets or something to allude to this idea that she is someone that will be easy to control through the phone call.

Casting decisions Jodie (Anna): I chose Jodie to play the main character, because of her acting abilities, and also because she fits the age group that the character needs to be. She is good at holding a strong performance, especially in a scarier way. She is also good at doing special effects makeup so can help make her character look more eerie and creepy when she becomes possessed. Kai (Elliot): I chose kai because his acting abilities are really strong, and he can maintain a good character. He is the same age as Jodie (17), so it fits the age group for the character. Connor (Jake): I chose Connor, because although he doesn’t have a main part he still can hold a good performance for his short scene.

Initial Ideas

Short film ideas: Psychological horror - relying on mental images to frighten the viewers (viewers imagination Main character (normal, happy, bright person) in garage, listening to music on radio/speaker, sorting boxes out of old photos with brother, joking around with each other. gets a phone call, becomes possessed. she goes upstairs, she stabs him and walks out. The next scene shows the main character in a launderette, unloading the washing (the sheets and clothes etc) into bag, starring directly ahead of her the whole time, in silence. her classmate comes in and tries to make conversation but notices something's wrong. Main character storms out of launderette. The last scene shows the classmate walking through the woods, taking photos, and notices in the distance main character, dragging something wrapped up. calls her name, and she  notices classmate is watching her and begins to chase with knife. ends on cliffhang...
